Golf Day ends in 'tie'

Sport Newcastle returned to Ponteland Golf Club for the 3rd consecutive year. 23 teams of 4 players had entered the Texas Scramble event and were pleased to see the course looking in excellent condition and the sun shining.

The winning score of net 53.0 was achieved by two teams, Delta Fore!-ce and TrustRed Ltd. with 4 other teams within 2 shots. Consequently, it was agreed that they would share the George Bayley Trophy, along with the cash prize of £300.

However, it wasn’t just about winning; it was about having some fun, exemplified by the putting challenge and nearest the pin competitions and making some money for a local sporting charity. Due to the generosity of 28 local golf clubs that donated 4-ball vouchers, Ponteland members and staff who donated prizes and bought raffle tickets, local businesses, and the fantastic support of our two main sponsors, Tier One Capital and SOS Group just over £5,000 will be added to our coffers. It’s amazing how all the small tokens of generosity add up to such a large amount of money.

The money will be used to help local sports clubs increase participation, support those aiming for sporting excellence and career development for coaches.

And finally a mention to the staff at Ponteland Golf Club. The greens staff received many praiseworthy comments about the condition of the course from visiting players. The friendly catering staff worked hard all day to provide 100 guests with tasty fare, and the management and professionals contributed prizes and ensured everything ran smoothly.

In the words of Arnie, "We'll be back!".

Joint winners: Stuart Redshaw (TrustRed Ltd.) & Andy Large (Delta Fore!-ce) with the George Bayley Trophy.
