Annual Awards Dinner: It's good to be back!

After 30 months Sport Newcastle's annual awards evening returned in style to the Banqueting Suite of the Civic Centre.

Over 300 guests were treated to an evening hosted by, Roger Tames (ex-Tyne Tees sports commentator), Dawn Thewlis (BBC News) and Ian Payne (ITV News).

The evening was sponsored by Tier One Capital and SOS Group, with support from; Curtis Gabriel, JC Events and Graphic Packaging International.

The resident magician baffled guests with his amazing card tricks and slight of hand. "He should be on the telly."

The Lord Mayor, Councillor Karen Robinson, presented trophies to the Rising Stars of sport, who later met up with Steve Harper, NUFC Academy coach for a group photo on the stairs.

Joy Eze presented Toby Aberdeen with a BIG cheque as this year's Platinum Award winner. Dean Richards was delighted to receive the Wilkinson Sword Lifetime Achievement Award from Melanie Magee and Ben Dawson & Adam Bartlett (NUFC coaches) received the Malcolm Dix, Success of the Year Trophy, on behalf of the whole club - for putting a smile back on the face of Newcastle United supporters.

Other winners on the night were Northumbria University Rugby League Team - Team of the Year; Jessica Baker, golfer, Young Sporting Success of the Year and Marc Steutel, Great Britain & Eagles Basketball, Coach of the Year.
