
Spring 2017 update on our Sport Scholars
Our 3 sports scholars have been busy getting ready for the sporting year ahead. Calum Johnson, triathlete, has been concentrating on cross-country over the winter. In his first ever senior national cross country event he came a creditable 12th beating many more experienced runners. Not bad for a triathlete! A bike crash in March set Calum back a little but he's now back in full training and looking forward to his first major triathlon of the year at the European Cup in Portug
Grants give away!
At last night's Grants Committee meeting it was agreed to support 13 aspiring young sports stars with grants to the total of £2200. One grant went to a female squash player who is embarking on a level 2 coaching course, several went to support travel grants to national and international tournaments and the remainder to help with equipment costs. Sports covered included archery, athletics, badminton, cricket, squash, swimming and weight lifting. In addition a grant of £400 was

Sarah Hunter, England Rugby Captain wins Frank Brennan Trophy
2016 World Rugby Women's Player of the Year, Sarah Hunter, MBE, was delighted to receive the Frank Brennan Trophy in recognition of an outstanding year as captain of the all conquering England Women's Rugby Union team. Due to commitments with the England team Sarah, an ex-student of Longbenton Community College, was unable to attend the Annual Awards Dinner in March.
