Emily - World Champion Scholar.

Getting brilliant GCSE results and becoming a World Champion on the same day is quite an achievement. That's what Sport Newcastle scholar, Emily Large, did on Thursday 24th August. Competing in the 6th FINA World Junior Swimming Championships in Indianapolis, Emily won the gold medal in the 200m butterfly. In a thrilling race Emily edged out the Japanese swimmer, Hasegawa and fellow British swimmer MacInnes, who took bronze. Emily's time of 2.07.74 also broke the 9 year old championship record. Afterwards Emily said, "This meant everything to me. I wasn't expecting to come away with a gold medal. Hopefully everyone on our team can feed on that energy and a few more medals will come." Tri-umph for our Scholars

Emily Large completed an unprecedented tri-ple at the recent British Junior Swimming Championships. Gold medals in the Womens 16 years butterfly 50m, 100m and 200m showed just how versatile and talented Emily is. Her continued progress as one of the best young swimmers in Britain is amazing. Emily has an exciting August ahead as she will be competing at the World Junior Championships in Indianapolis before getting her GCSE results at the end of August. Calum Johnson celebrated gaining his degree by competing in two tri-athlons in June.
