Newcastle Fencing Club benefit from grants giveaway.

July's meeting of the Awards Committee agreed grants to clubs and individuals totaling £3835. The biggest beneficiary was Newcastle Fencing Club which received £1000 to support 2 elite fencers, who are representing Great Britain, in traveling to the European Championships in Portugal. Part of the grant was awarded to allow the head coach to travel with competitors to 8 national events to monitor first hand the performance of individual fencers during competition. Tyne Amateur Rowing Club were awarded a grant to repair 3 junior squad boats, whilst Northern Storm Korfball Club received a grant to allow a coach to attend a level 2 coaching course. Mike's 50 hole golf challenge

Mike at the start of his 50 hole golf challenge. On 3rd July Mike Booth (vice-chair, Sport Newcastle) took on the challenge of completing 50 holes of golf in as few shots and as quickly as possible. For £5 people were invited to guess the number of shots and the time taken. Playing on his own, with an official marker, he completed the task in 246 shots and in a time of 5 hours 44 minutes. Charles Holleyman, a Ponteland Golf Club member, was the only person to guess the score correctly and won the prize of £100, half of which he immediately donated back to the cause. Charity Golf Day: 30th June 2017

Team Northumbria: Winners of the George Bayley Trophy 2017 (Matthew Heels, Chris Bucktrout, Matthew Naylor, David Goodchild) This year's golf day was held at Matfen Hall Golf Club. 20 teams turned up on an overcast day, but the competition was anything but dull. Team Northumbria just managed to overcome a great challenge by Priory Safety Services to win the Texas Scramble event by 1 point. In 3rd place a further 0.3 points behind were last year's winners, Siemens.
