A helping hand for Harriers.

Josh Blevins and Scott Hall were delighted to represent Gateshead Harriers and to meet up with Jonathan Edwards CBE to receive a cheque for £400 from Sport Newcastle's Covid-19 Emergency Fund.

Jonathan was at the International Stadium to record an interview to celebrate 25 years since setting his unbeaten triple jump world record of 18.29m set in Sweden in 1995.

Jonathan's involvement with Sport Newcastle goes back even further to when he was a student at Durham University. He was awarded a grant to buy his first pair of spikes and he has supported Sport Newcastle ever since. He is now an honorary patron of the charity.

Iona Sweeney, Gateshaed Harriers Club Secretary, was delighted to hear of Sport Newcastle's support. "It's been a difficult few months within athletics with no training facilities or competitions so we are delighted to receive this help from Sport Newcastle. The funds will enable us to hold competitions for young athletes within the club and the local area. Our athletes have shown great resilience throughout lockdown, but they are desperate to get back competing. Sport Newcastle's support has given them hope and something to look forward to."
