Swimmer Nicholas Pyle first to receive support from 'Destination Tokyo' fund.

European double gold medal winner, Nick Pyle became the first person to benefit from Sport Newcastle's new fundraising campaign.

At last year's European swimming championships Nick showed his potential by swimming the backstroke leg in the men's 4x100m medley final and the mixed 4x100m medley heats. In both cases the team won the gold medal.

When Nick was told that he would be receiving the platinum level funding of £1500 he said,

"I am very grateful to Sport Newcastle for the help and support they give me and I am honoured to be the first to receive funding from the new 'Destination Tokyo and Beyond' fund. Next year is a key year for me as I try to make the Olympic Team and support from this fund will be a great help in achieving that dream."

Nick also won the Young Sporting Achievement of the Year award at the recent Sport Newcastle annual awards dinner in March 2019.
