Beautiful weather, excellent hospitality and a course in first class condition welcomed 80 golfers as they arrived at Matfen Hall for the Sport Newcastle charity golf day on Friday 29th June.
For the 2nd year running Newcastle based wealth management specialist, Tier One Capital were the event sponsors. They provided gifts for all competitors on arrival, prizes for the first 3 teams, raffle prizes and a fabulous auction lot of a box at a Newcastle Falcons game.
Teams of 4 played a Texas Scramble format with a shotgun start. The result was very close with the winning team, Siemens, just edging out Old Awful Putters to win the George Bayley Trophy. This is the 2nd time in the last 3 years that the team from Siemens, captained by Iain Monk, has won the coveted trophy.
Iain, was delighted to accept the trophy on behalf of his team and said afterwards, “It was the eagle 3 on our last hole, a par 5, that made the difference. As always it was a great day, played in a great spirit – we’ll definitely be back next year to go for the hat-trick.”
Stephen Black, managing director of Newcastle based wealth management specialist, Tier One Capital, said, “We are pleased to be sponsoring Sport Newcastle’s golf day for the second year running. Last year this tournament raised over £5,500 for the charity, helping to enable many of our region’s young people to enjoy and achieve sporting success.”
This year’s event raised over £6,500 and is due to the generous sponsorship of Tier One Capital and of all the golfers taking part.
Next year's charity golf day will be at Matfen Hall G.C. on Friday 28th June 2019.
