Sport Newcastle grants help Charlie raise the bar.

23 year old pole vaulter, Charlie Myers, has recently been awarded his second grant from Sport Newcastle towards the cost of a new pole.

Charlie has been selected to represent Team G.B. in the European Indoor Athletics Championships in Poland from 4th-7th March 2021. He is the only athlete from the North East in the squad of 50.

Charlie represents Birtley Athletics Club and is trained by coach, Chris Boundy from Gateshead Harriers. Chris rates Charlie highly and has been working with him intensively during lockdown. "Charlie's dedication, desire to succeed and drive is second to none, and I have no doubt he will reach every goal he sets out to achieve."

A good performance in Poland will help Charlie impress the selectors, give him high quality competition experience and help in his efforts to achieve the qualification standard for the Tokyo Olympics. This would be a fantastic achievement for someone as young as Charlie. We wish him well.
