Sport Newcastle recently awarded Kenton Amateur Boxing Club a grant of £1,000 to purchase new boxing gloves and head guards.
The club, that operates out of a large gym in Kenton, needed the extra equipment to cater for all the new recruits. Head coach, Craig Pape, said, “We took the opportunity over lockdown to extend the size of the gym and lots of new members joined. The new equipment is exactly what we needed to avoid youngsters having to share.”
Mike Booth, vice chair of Sport Newcastle visited the club and saw for himself the quality of the set-up. “I only live a few hundred yards from the club but I didn’t know it existed. The facilities are fantastic and I was really impressed with the way that the coaches got the youngsters working straight away. It was obvious that they were enjoying themselves and trying their hardest. I’m sure the new equipment will be put to very good use.”
Ian McElroy, Chief Executive Tier One Capital, and Sport Newcastle’s main sponsor also visited. “It was great to see the impact of our recent sponsorship deal with Sport Newcastle. To see so many keen youngsters training in a disciplined way and enjoying themselves was fantastic. Tier One Capital are committed to supporting sport in the community and it’s obvious to me that Kenton A.B.C. is one of the best examples of this in the City.”
