Continued Support for 'Class of 2019'

Five of Sport Newcastle's Rising Stars from 2019 recently received grants to support their on-going success at regional, national and international level. Not only are these 'Rising Stars' continuing to perform well, but they are also receiving great reviews from their coaches about their contribution as role models to younger athletes in their sport.

Those receiving grants were:

Maria Vogiatzi, sailing, (front row, 1st left), Laura Nelson, gymnastics, (front row, 2nd right), Martin Bland, trampoline (2nd row, 1st left), Rosie Belsham, golf, (2nd row, 2nd left) and Daniel Dixon, triathlon, (2nd row, 2nd right). The picture shows all the Rising Stars at the 2019 Awards Dinner, along with Alan Shearer, the Lord Mayor and Andrew Skelton, Director SOS (the event sponsor).

Three other athletes from the 'Class of 2018' Rising Stars, Toby Aberdeen, Ines Curran and Anya Hassan also received grants as did four other athletes who received grants for the first time.

In total £5,250 was awarded to the 12 young athletes receiving grants.
