Magpies grab gold

Newcastle Magpies chief coach, Steve Beaty, was thrilled to meet up with Olympic gold medal winner, and (still) world triple jump record holder, Jonathan Edwards C.B.E., to receive a £480 cheque from Sport Newcastle's Covid-19 emergency fund.

Jonathan, a Sport Newcastle patron, said, "I'm delighted to be involved with a charity that is helping young sports people at such a difficult time. Local sports clubs, like Newcastle Magpies, do a fantastic job, but they need regular funds to keep them going. For many, just a small grant from Sport Newcastle might be all that's needed to get them back on their feet."

Steve has worked tirelessly to establish rugby league at Walbottle Campus and has been in regular contact with players and parents during 'lockdown' When he was told about the grant award his response was, "This is great news, the grant will help us to retain our members, recruit from local schools and remain a rugby club at the heart of the community."
