Emily, Emerging Swimmer of the Year.

At the annual British Swimming awards in November, Sport Newcastle scholar, Emily Large, was presented with the prestigious 'Emerging Young Swimmer of the Year' award.

This capped a brilliant year for Emily, having won 3 titles at the British Junior swimming finals, become the World Junior 200m butterfly champion in August and being selected to represent England at the Commonwealth Games in Australia next April.

In December Emily made her senior debut for Team GB in Copenhagen at the European short course championships. She swam brilliantly to qualify for the 400m individual medley final where she was up against the Olympic champion Katinka Hozzu. On this occasion Emily let her win! At the same meet Emily swam personal bests in the 50m and 100m butterfly and just missed out on a second final (by 0.7s) in the 200m butterfly. A fantastic achievement for such a young swimmer.

Everyone at Sport Newcastle wishes Emily and her family an enjoyable and successful 2018.
