Newcastle Fencing Club benefit from grants giveaway.

July's meeting of the Awards Committee agreed grants to clubs and individuals totaling £3835.

The biggest beneficiary was Newcastle Fencing Club which received £1000 to support 2 elite fencers, who are representing Great Britain, in traveling to the European Championships in Portugal. Part of the grant was awarded to allow the head coach to travel with competitors to 8 national events to monitor first hand the performance of individual fencers during competition.

Tyne Amateur Rowing Club were awarded a grant to repair 3 junior squad boats, whilst Northern Storm Korfball Club received a grant to allow a coach to attend a level 2 coaching course. Ponteland Golf Club recently supported a 50-hole sponsored golf challenge and as a result received half of the money raised towards coaching costs for a newly established Monday night club for juniors.

Further individual grants of £250 each were awarded to another fencer, a trampolinist, two triathletes, a cyclist and a squash player.

Applications for the next round of grants need to be received by 30th September 2017.
