Mike at the start of his 50 hole golf challenge.
On 3rd July Mike Booth (vice-chair, Sport Newcastle) took on the challenge of completing 50 holes of golf in as few shots and as quickly as possible. For £5 people were invited to guess the number of shots and the time taken.
Playing on his own, with an official marker, he completed the task in 246 shots and in a time of 5 hours 44 minutes.
Charles Holleyman, a Ponteland Golf Club member, was the only person to guess the score correctly and won the prize of £100, half of which he immediately donated back to the cause.
Overall Mike raised £965 which has been split equally between Ponteland Golf Club Juniors (to pay for additional coaching sessions for beginners) and Sport Newcastle.
Mike would like to thank everyone who sponsored him and to the management at Ponteland Golf Club for supporting the event. He will not be attempting a 60 hole challenge to celebrate Sport Newcastle's Diamond Anniversary in 2027!
