Latest update from Sport Newcastle scholar Emily Large

The new season started off in September when I was selected to attend a Junior National camp in Aberdeen.

At the end of October, just before an incredibly worthwhile training camp in Spain with Newcastle swim team, I was delighted to be selected for British Swimming’s World Class Podium Potential Programme for 2016/17. This enables me to access a number of facilities and programmes to support my swimming as well as be selected for different training camps and competitions including the USA Pro Am series in Indianapolis in March 2017.

In December I competed as part of the British team at the Ontario Junior International meet (short course) in Toronto. I won gold in the 200 Butterfly and recorded a new meet record as well as a new British Junior record in a time of 2.07.00. I won bronze in the 400IM which was also a new British Junior record.

To end the year I was honoured to be awarded Pullbuoy’s Young swimmer of the year. My immediate priority is the British Swimming Championships in Sheffield in April. Here I hope to be selected for the World Junior championships in Indianapolis in August.
