United Girls Shine in 2009/10 Season

Beth on her call up to the England squad

Newcastle United Foundation’s Girls’ Centre of Excellence is celebrating the end of the 2009/2010 season.
60 budding young female stars in squads of Under 10s, 12s, 14s and 16s trained twice a week for 30 weeks over the season, playing weekly fixtures against other FA Centres including Middlesbrough, Sunderland, Sheffield United, and Leeds United.
Trophies for Most Improved Player in each age group were awarded to the following at the Annual Presentation evening held at Newcastle United Academy: Ellie Mark (Under 10), Natasha Goodall (Under 12), Abbey Joice (Under 14). As role models within their age group these girls have helped increase the standards expected both on and off the pitch.
A special award was also presented to Beth Milne who received a surprise call up to an England Under 15 training camp this season.
Centre Director Ben Dawson said: “We are very grateful for the support of Sport Newcastle this season. Their funding towards this programme helps to ensure there is a pathway for gifted and talented female football players in this area”
Assessments are now being held to select players for the 2010/2011 season.
